South Sound Parents and Players:

Welcome to 2010 PONY Baseball! Below you will find a links to Player Registration and Concussion Forms. In order for a team to be recognized by the League, all players must be fully accounted for via registration forms AND the concussion form.

In order to keep the registration and pre-season planning process rolling along, please take care of this immediately. Registration fees are also due immediately upon registration. SoCo District is one of the few Districts where parents are permitted to split fees into two or three installments, however, ALL post-dated checks are due together if this option is chosen. In order for this practice to continue for this season, do not put the District in the position of being bill collector. Also, the chosen uniform vendor is not permitted to release the order for team uniforms until acknowledgement is provided by the District pursuant to all fees being collected.

The SoCo District Parent Code of Conduct has also been posted and distributed via email. It is expected all families will review and abide by the guidance set forth in the Code. One major area of importance I wish to highlight in this post, as there is an abundance of new families to PONY baseball for the 2010 Season, league rules and insurance provisions are extremely clear relative to prohibition of parents, "managers", siblings and un-rostered/un-recognized "parent helpers" in the dug outs and field areas during games and in sanctioned tournament play. Bat boys are also not recognized and/or insured. Please do not put league officials in the position of having to "police" dugouts and field areas for unauthorized parties accessing the dugouts and/or field areas during games. Any SoCo Oversight Board Member has full authority to direct unauthorized access be corrected immediately, and, if the offending parties refuse and/or behaviors continue, the player will be removed from the program until the matter can be rectified through appropriate Board channels. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS.

PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT/DISTRICT GUIDELINES
Sent February 14, 2010

SoCo District's 2010 pre-season is here. This is an extra noteworthy year for the District, as this is the 6th straight season in which team managers, coaches, parents and players have made the commitment to be a part of a program that is progressive and also provides our players a higher level of competition and exposure, not only in the Yelm community, but in the Thurston/Mason/Pierce county areas, and, for some of our teams, in other states.

With the extra commitment, local and long distance travel, our parents and players accept throughout the season, our District administrators, team managers, parents and players are constantly representing the SoCo District. Please take a moment and click on the link below. The document is a universal Sports Parent Code of Conduct. Please read the entire document and know that each point brought forth in the Code of Conduct is exactly what is expected of you as parents in this District. It is the reputation of this District that we are excellent hosts to our out of town guests and that we clap and cheer for all players, recognize good play and positive sportsmanship of both our respective teams and that of our opponents.

http://www.jtownball.net/handouts/parent-code-of-conduct/pdf

Additionally, PONY guidelines and tournament rules are very clear on the role of spectators and their privileges to access players, coaches and managers during games. It has always been the provision in this District that no matter what the game situation, be it a scrimmage game or championship match for the division title, our parents and spectators act accordingly and adhere to the same rules of conduct at all times.

No parents, spectators or siblings are to be in the dug out at any time, nor are they to "hover" around the entrance, sides or behind the dugouts or team areas. It is expected players will be prepared BEFORE game time with waters, Gatorade, etc., so parents will have no need to enter the dug out areas to give their players sports drinks. If an item of necessity must be brought to the player, the parent will leave the item at the end of the dug out entrance for the player to retrieve it. Clear liquids or sports drinks only in the dug outs. NO FOOD, GUM, SHELLED SUNFLOWER SEEDS, HOT COCOA, ETC. during practices and games. NO CELL PHONES, IPODS, GAMBOYS, ETC. during practices and games. A manager or coach has the authority to "bench" any players going to the concession stand during the course of a game other than being sent to retrieve ice for an injured player. For their safety, players are not to leave the dugout for any reason. Player bathroom trips are not the norm, but rather the exception during a game.

Parents, if a player is injured during a game, a coach will motion to you to join your player on the field if the situation warrants. Otherwise, please let the coaches and officials assess the situation.

Please do not distract the team scorekeeper. In certain situations the team scorekeeper may be acting as the "official book" and must devote full attention to the game. Absolutely no noise makers, such as cow bells or air horns, are allowed.

In situations where corrective action is required relative to a player(s), this District consents to managers and coaches being able to introduce opportunities for behavior modification, including sitting a player for disciplinary purposes. In the event of a player expulsion by an official during a game, the District will allow for the manager to make the determination to restrict the player from playing in the next two consecutive league games.

ABSOLUTELY NO CRITICIZING OF OFFICIALS, MANAGERS, COACHES, PLAYERS AND/OR FELLOW PARENTS WILL BE TOLERATED. The "golden rule" applies here at all times...if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. No one likes to hear one or two nay sayers constantly complaining--it takes the fun out of being part of a team real fast for both the players and parents. Our target audience are children and it is our responsibility for all members of the entire league community to set an example for others, maintain a positive environment and encourage all players. If it is felt the program is deficient in some manner, please feel free to step forward to volunteer your efforts to address and strengthen those areas. If you have a legitimate concern please make a time agreeable for both the manager and you to discuss your concerns. Managers are not required to immediately drop everything, take calls at their place of employment and/or be confronted at the beginning, during or the immediate end of a game to hear a parent concern at the time the parent may feel it is convenient for them to voice their concern. The District promotes manager autonomy relative to team management. Our coaches and managers volunteer huge amounts of time and, in some instances, pay for equipment and other items directly from their own pockets in order to provide an opportunity for children to play baseball.

Without the excellent managers, coaches and volunteers who all share the collective vision of promoting a premiere program for youth baseball players, this District would not have made the imprint it has over the last few years. SoCo teams have repeatedly taken division championship titles, won Local All Star titles, sent high percentages of players onto the National All Star tournament trail and, most recently finished among the top 10u and 12u teams in the Pacific Northwest region. It is exciting to see how the District continues to grow and expand with new teams each season and new families to join in the fun. It is my sincere hope your player finds a better level of baseball and finds himself surrounded by a team of boys that truly want to be on the diamond as much as he, as well as feeling confident the entire District is rooting for him from those in both sets of bleachers to the managers and coaches in the dugout.

Now, with this annual piece of administration over, let's concentrate on a successful 2010 Season!

PLAY BALL!

SoCo DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE...MID SEASON
http://yelmpony.blogspot.com/
www.southsoundbaseball.com

We are just about half-way through our league schedule for the season--hard to believe, isn't it?

I wanted to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to all in receipt of this email for the efforts you are expending every day to make the league a great program for our local kids.

We have grown this season, added new teams and we have seen a great deal of new opportunities for our players to play not only half of their league games on home fields but also to participate in both league and community-sponsored tournaments. We are also reaping the benefits of working with volunteers from other leagues in a mutually collaborative relationship, sharing resources and in some cases volunteer efforts where all our kids profit.

It is a group effort to keep this program going. Your efforts are not overlooked or unappreciated by me. Thanks again for all you are doing to give our kids good experiences.

South County Boys 12u Baseball Enjoy Tournament Win in Shelton

The Warriors baseball club, based in Rochester, claimed the Championship title in the Mason County 12u Invitational Baseball Tournament in Shelton this past weekend.

The Warriors overall tournament record was 5-1, meeting the Black Hills Cal Ripken White Sox in the Championship match. The White Sox were a tough competitor throughout the weekend, beating the Warriors earlier in pool play 7-6. However, at the end of the day, the Warriors proved successful with a 6-3 victory over the White Sox. The Warriors entire tournament appearance met with them outscoring their opponents 58 to 21 in the six games they played over the weekend.

Warriors Manager, Jeremy Larson of Rochester, stated the entire weekend "was a total team effort by all 14 kids there". He further went on to comment, "I couldn't pick an MVP if I had too, everyone played within themselves and filled their role on the team. It was just a great team effort.".

Though the club is based primarily out of Rochester, there were players on the team from around rural Thurston County, including Oakville, Tenino, Yelm and Rainier. All players are affiliated with the South Sound PONY Baseball League, South County District.

Players for the Shelton tournament were: Josh Larson, Cody Canfield, Brandon Rogers, Ray Lopez, Shawn Youckton, Alex Youckton, John Smalley, Matt Shields, Curtis Haley, Devonte Ford, Andy Sommer, Oscar Jackson, Brandon Glick and Connor Bensen.

The team has been managed for the last two seasons by Jeremy Larson. Coaching staff is: Cory Canfield, Marvin Youckton, Ray Lopez, Steve Larson, and Damon Ford.

The club has a hearty tournament schedule planned throughout the remainder of the spring and summer season in addition to SSB league play, where they are currently in first place.

FRIDAY MAY 1st

SOUTH SOUND NIGHT WITH THE TACOMA RAINIERS

FROM THE EVENT COORDINATOR WITH THE RAINIERS:

Hello folks,

I’m looking forward to South Sound PONY Night this Friday. Great job by all the districts on this fundraiser with lots of participation.

Friday’s game is at 7pm and gates will open at 6pm. It’s a fireworks night so the parking lot will fill up quickly. South Sound PONY will have a first pitch that night and it will take place at 6:30pm. The first pitch participant can check in at the Concierge Desk on the left side of the ticket office as they enter Cheney Stadium. I’ll be around to meet them and will bring them down to the 1st base gate to get set. The first pitch participant should arrive by 6:15-6:20.

The on-field parade will take place at 6:45. We ask that all teams come dressed in their uniforms with the exception of cleats. When teams arrive, they can go down the concourse to the 1st base gate next to the RF bleachers. Please arrive down there by 6:30. There should be some type of barrier set up, like bicycle fencing, and teams can line up one by one. All teams will stand on the field for the National Anthem. Please stay on the outfield grass and do not go onto the dirt infield at any time.

Since the game needs to start on time at 7pm, we ask that all teams run both on and off the field for the parade. Hustle is important! The staircase leading up to the main stands will be blocked so you will need to go back around the concourse and up the nearest tunnel to get to your seats.

Please communicate this info to all teams and coaches participating on Friday. Any questions, please let me know. Thanks!

This next week is going to be extremely busy with the SSB Kick Off Classic (March 30-April 4th). Just a few years ago with no facilities available in the area the idea of hosting these events were unthinkable.

As we are the host for this event, we are going to need DAILY volunteer assistance throughout the week with field prep before the games, touch ups between and tear down afterwards at both Vets and Longmire--4 FIELDS EACH DAY OF THE EVENT. My husband and I will be there literally every day doing our share of the work for that goes into these events. We are counting on coaches to also communicate with their team parents that assistance is needed with set up and tear down. THANK YOU!

In this case, the more the hands, the lighter the load.

ASSISTANT COACHES, IN ADDITION TO MANAGERS, MUST REGISTER WITH SSB FOR BACK GROUND CHECKS. (PLEASE SEE THE DIRECTIONS BELOW)

FROM THE SSB PRESIDENT, KYLE DORSEY...

COACHES SELF-REGISTRATION FOR ANNUAL BACKGROUND CHECKS

Directors, we are having some feedback that coaches are not understanding how to register through our web site. I think it is mostly related to just finding the link. Below are some brief instructions. Please pass these on to all your coaches and assistant coaches. League policy is the manager (head coach) must be registered, and at least one other coach must be registered. We would like to have all coaches registered. There is a background check.

Coaches - How to Register

On the bottom right corner of the SSB web page is a little double box. One part says "Admin" and the other says "Client Login." Click on the Client Login box.

You will see a window with an option for if you have an account, and one if you are a new member. Choose the one which applies. If you have forgotten your password, your login ID is your e-mail and the password is easy to retrieve.

From this point on it is mostly straight forward. Choose 2009 Spring Season. There are a couple of trick spots.

At one point you have to Add "Coach" to your cart. The system treats this like on line shopping. The fee is $0.00, so don't sweat. You won't be asked for a credit card.

At another point it asks if you are going to be a coach, or assistant coach. Choose the level you are comfortable with. Think of coach as "manager," or head coach. The system will ask you to name the "coach," if you are an assistant. So if you are Art Smith, and you want to assist Judy Jones, you would type in Judy Jones. If you are not sure who the coach might be - you are just registering to be available, leave it blank.

You are also asked for your Driver's License number. This is required for the background check through Washington State Patrol.

If you have any questions, please submit through the web site feedback or to SSBpres@gmail.com .

The season will be upon us soon!!

SoCo teams have repeatedly taken division championship titles, won Local All Star titles, sent high percentages of players onto the National All Star tournament trail and, most recently finished among the top three 10u teams in the Pacific Northwest region.

Now, with this annual piece of administration over, let's concentrate on a successful 2009 Season!

(Weeknight Games begin March 30th. Championships for 10u on Saturday April 4th. Championships for 12u MAY stretch into Sunday April 5th)

These next couple of weekends are going to be extremely busy with the Vet's Jamboree (March 27-28th) and the SSB Kick Off Classic (March 30-April 4th). Just a few years ago with no facilities available in the area the idea of hosting these events were unthinkable.

As we are the hosts for these events, we are going to need volunteer assistance throughout the next couple of weeks with field prep before the games, touch ups between and tear down afterwards. My husband and I will be there literally every day doing our share of the work for that goes into these events. We are counting on coaches to also communicate with their team parents that assistance is needed with set up and tear down.

In this case, the more the hands, the lighter the load.

**

Also, we have fund raisers going on during these events. Please support the kids from our league--pancake feeds and t-shirt sales are SoCo team fund raisers...your support helps our local PONY kids!

The Yelm Diamondbacks Mustang Team will be hosting a pancake feed at the American Legion Hall, on both Saturdays.

Let's plan to have a great couple pre-season weekends!!
